This is a rare Solomon Islands Canoe House Idol…..circa 1890 – 1910.
This is NOT a prow figure….These house idols are rarer than prow figures…
This object is attributed to the old collector

Look at the inventory number in white paint…..There is no documentation for this ( like many, many superb Oceanic artifacts it’s bereft of provenance)……..Fleischmann or not, that’s not important — this is an old and rare artifact.
Absolutely gorgeous traditional MOP inlay work…….quite a few age cracks here and there.
Pierced septum…
The circular cavity on the underside suggests the piece was mounted on a pole of some sorts – as a finial (?)
Ex private French collection….
